Opening an Individual 401(k)

To open an Individual 401(k) at Schwab, both the Individual 401(k) Application and Adoption Agreement must be completed, signed, and submitted. To simplify the process for your client, we recommend gathering all necessary information in advance. This allows us to ensure the forms are completed accurately and in full. To assist with this, we've provided an Excel template for collecting the required business and plan details. Links to the full versions of the forms are also included below.


To get started, please upload a completed template to Box.com and our team will begin preparing the paperwork for the client to sign in Docusign.

Important note about Individual 401(k) contributions: Individual 401(k)s contributions are not eligible for Moneylink. Contribution methods vary based on the type of contribution. Please see below:

Participant Salary Deferral Contributions into I401(k)s and Roth 401(k)s
